PRINCESS THUNDAH - PROFILE
__________________________________________________________________
If one is to go by the sound of the new single from newcomer Princess Thundah and reggae icon Luciano, called "Global Warfare" you would have to conclude that this artist will not be unknown for long.
The single follows her debut release "Life Can't Done" which peaked at number 8 on the Jamaica Top 25 Reggae Chart back in 2010, and contains lyrics that are a cut above the normal fare of contemporary dancehall. It is one of the stellar compositions that are on the newly released Question Riddim compilation on 619 Entertainment/VP Records.
The cultural seer known as Princess Thundah was christened as Princess Saulas and hails from the Kingston 11 area where she grew up until she moved to Breton St Catherine. It was at this time while in her early teens that she started to realize her musical calling. In the steamy back yards of Old Breton she would practice on yard sound systems and also perform at area talent shows alongside future stars like I Wayne who remains a good friend. Fate would see her moving to the United States to join her mother relocating in New York City. After school in her late teens she sang and coming into her early twenties she sang with two Guyanese expatriate bands and recorded minimally with some young producers. She also gained experience by touring with the bands doing shows in Canada and the Caribbean.
In 2005, she hooked up with with producers Patrick Dunn and Roger Grant in Philadelphia who took her talent very seriously and started to record her extensively and handling some management duties. This relationship further blossomed into a five year management contract when the producers joined with two others Linval Osbourne and Marcello Johnson to form the 619 Entertainment Group. The company introduced her via the debut single to Jamaican radio and is preparing an album of the same name in order to break her into the reggae market.
With an internet buzz which sees her being regularly rotated on playlist in France. Holland, Switzerland. USA and Australia the faith in this powerhouse of an artist is not misplaced. Princess Thundah’s provocative song ‘Gully & Gaza” and Baby featuring Natural Black have lit up with plays on Youtube and Baby is the B side release on the first cut vinyl edition of Life Caan Done.
The Thundahs states that her music is cultural and revolutionary and insists that Queen Ifrica and Etana need some more help to combat the negativity portrayed by some in the business. From the way it looks the help will come much sooner than later.
